This Privacy Policy explains what information Kind Scale collects, how it is used, how it may be shared, and the choices you have.

Kind Scale is designed to support mindful tracking. You can use the app in local-only mode (no account) or enable optional cloud sync by signing in (for example, with Apple).

1. Quick summary

Default is on-device only. If you do not sign in, your entries stay on your device. Optional cloud sync. If you choose to sign in, we store your synced data on our servers to provide backup and multi-device access. No ads, no selling. We do not sell personal data and we do not use your data for targeted advertising. Limited sharing. We share data only with service providers needed to operate sync and core infrastructure, and only as necessary. 2. Two ways to use Kind Scale
2.1 Local-only mode (no account)
If you use Kind Scale without signing in:

  • Your entries and settings are stored on your device.
  • We do not receive your weight or mood entries, notes, or history from local-only use.

2.2 Account / Sync mode (optional sign-in)
If you choose to sign in (for example, Sign in with Apple), cloud sync is enabled:
  • We store the data you choose to sync on our servers to provide backup, restore, and multi-device access.
  • You can stop using sync at any time by signing out and/or deleting your account.

3. Information we collect
What we collect depends on how you use the app. Local-only use does not transmit your entries to us. If you enable sync, we collect and store the following categories of information.
3.1 Information you provide (only if you enable sync)
Account information: your email address (including Apple relay email if you use Hide My Email) and a user identifier. Health and wellness entries you choose to sync: weight logs, mood entries (if used), and notes. App preferences: units, display preferences, and reminder settings (if enabled). 3.2 Purchases and subscriptions
If you purchase a subscription, payments are processed by Apple’s In-App Purchase system.
We do not receive your payment card details. We may store limited purchase-related information (such as subscription entitlement/status) to unlock features, restore purchases, and provide support.
3.3 Diagnostics
To improve reliability, we may collect diagnostics data such as crash logs and performance information. Diagnostics may include device model, OS version, app version, and crash traces.
We use diagnostics for troubleshooting and stability only.
4. How we use information

Provide core features (logging, history, trends, reminders if enabled). Provide optional cloud sync, backup, restore, and multi-device access (only if you sign in). Manage subscriptions and restore access to premium features. Maintain security, prevent abuse, and troubleshoot issues. Respond to support requests and communicate with you about the app (when necessary).
5. Tracking and advertising

We do not use your data to track you across other companies’ apps and websites for advertising. We do not sell personal information.

6. How we share information

We share information only in the following situations:
  • Service providers (processors): if you enable sync, we use trusted providers to operate cloud features (for example, database hosting and authentication).
  • Legal requirements: if required by law, regulation, or valid legal process, or to protect rights, safety, and security.
  • With your direction: if you export or share data using features you initiate.
If you enable sync, your data may be stored and processed using infrastructure provided by Supabase (cloud database/auth hosting), acting as a processor on our behalf.

7. Data storage, security, and retention
7.1 Local-only data (no account)
Stored on your device until you delete it in the app or uninstall the app. Device backups are controlled by your device and platform settings.
7.2 Cloud-synced data (optional sign-in)
Stored on our servers to keep it available across devices. Kept until you delete it in the app, delete your account, or request deletion.
Security: we use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards designed to protect information (for example, encrypted connections in transit and access controls). No system can be guaranteed 100% secure.

Backups: residual copies may remain in backups for a limited period after deletion and are overwritten in the normal course of operations.

8. Your choices and controls
Use the app without signing in to keep data local-only. Sign in or sign out to enable or disable sync. Edit or delete entries in the app. Delete your account (if you created one) to remove synced data from our systems.
If you cannot access the app and need help with account deletion or a privacy request, contact us using the support contact listed in the app or on the App Store product page.

9. Children’s privacy

Local-only mode can be used without creating an account.

Accounts and cloud sync are not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly allow users under 13 to create an account or use cloud sync. If we learn an account belongs to a child under 13, we will take steps to delete the account and associated synced data.

10. International transfers

If you use Kind Scale from outside Finland, your information may be processed in countries where we or our service providers operate. When required, appropriate safeguards are used for international transfers.

11. Health disclaimer

Kind Scale is for personal tracking and reflection only. It does not provide medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment, and it is not a substitute for professional care.

You are responsible for how you use the app and any decisions you make based on your entries. If you feel distressed or have concerns about your health, consider contacting a qualified professional.

12. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will update the “Last updated” date and, where appropriate, provide notice in the app.

Do you collect my weight or mood entries by default?

No. By default, your entries stay on your device (local-only mode). We don’t receive your entries unless you choose to sign in and enable cloud sync.

When does data get stored on your servers?

Only if you choose to sign in (for example, with Apple). Signing in enables cloud sync so your entries can be backed up and used across devices.

Do you sell my data or use it for ads?

No. KindScale has no ads, doesn’t sell personal data, and isn’t built for targeted advertising.

How do I delete my account and data in Kind Scale?

Go to the Options tab and tap Delete Account. This permanently deletes your account and all Kind Scale data linked to it (including local data on your device). It can’t be undone, so please export your data as a CSV first if you want to keep a copy. If you’re using Kind Scale without an account, you can remove local data by deleting entries in the app or by uninstalling the app. 

Do I need an account to use Kind Scale?

No. You can use Kind Scale without signing in (local-only mode).

How do I cancel my subscription?

Subscriptions are managed by Apple. On iPhone: Settings → Apple ID (your name) → Subscriptions → Kind Scale → Cancel

How do I hide my weight number?

Set 'Show Numbers' toggle to off on the Options page to log a weigh-in without displaying the number. You can keep numbers hidden as long as you want.

Does Kind Scale do calorie counting or dieting plans?

No. KindScale is designed to avoid diet pressure. It doesn’t focus on calorie counting, streaks, or “good/bad” days.
